we got married *glitter and joy, etc*

Don’t try to write posts while high on coffee guys. It just doesn’t work. Stupid cold brew.

But anyway. Back to the point. M and I are married! WOO!

It is kind of weird, honestly, as neither of us are particularly “wedding-y” people (whatever that means), but it somehow still felt like the right choice for us.  (It was the kind of situation where, when we told people we were engaged, some people reacted with “You!?!? Getting married?? Really?” That said, many people were also entirely unsurprised. ) We got engaged roughly a year ago, and we were married this year, on our third (ONLY THIRD??) anniversary. See, that way we only have one date to remember 😉 And frankly, I think it’s our “being together” anniversary that will matter the most to us (what with not being “wedding-y” people and all).. BUT ANYWAY I DIGRESS (dnag, I mean, dang coffee).

For a number of reasons, we chose for the ceremony to be very small (or “intimate” in wedding speak) – and we will have big ol’ parties in Canada and Scotland at a later date. It was just us, our siblings, parents, M’s grand father and my one uncle on my mother’s side. I just thought I’d share some of the photos from the day, because they are lovely and make me happy. 🙂

We got ourselves a Fujifilm Instax Mini for taking our own wedding photos. M had been eyeing it since his boss had shown his off, so we figured this was a great excuse to get one ourselves. It was an excellent idea – they were such fun to take, and it’s lovely to have fun and “informal” wedding photos! I’ll show some of those off too once I’ve edited the scans.

One of our biggest expenses of the day was renting Meg (that wonderful big blue VW van) and her driver. No regrets there either, she and her driver were fabulous – AND she came with ice cold bubbly too!

We go really really lucky with the weather – Edinburgh (and Scotland in general) is famous for being grey and rainy year round for a reason! We made the most of it and tried to get as many photos as we could taken outside. We planned for getting photos in two different green spaces (before wedding, and after) if the weather was good…. and I’m so so glad it was! Look at all that sunshine and joy 😉

I’m mostly only sharing photos of me and M here, but I just had to share this one of me and my parents. It’s so, so much better than the formal posed photo I though we’d been taking! Haha.

M and I have been wearing our matching rings since we got engaged. Because of this, we didn’t bother with a ring exchange during our ceremony, but we still got some ring shots 😉

Our feet look silly in this photo because it was taken on a very steep hill… but I still love it! Maybe the awkward feet even adds to the charm, maybe?

Not shown in the official photos is how we all hung out – fancy clothes and all – at Camera Obscura and World of Illusions between the ceremony and dinner. It was a spur of the moment decision, and it was a fantastic one! We all had a lot of fun exploring and generally being silly. Dinner was had in the private room at Divino in Edinburgh, and it was perfect. The food was delicious, most of us indulged and enjoyed trying their “wine flights” (mine was all bubbly, mwahahaha), where you get to try 4-6 different wines, the service was lovely (and highly professional) and the timing and size of dishes was perfect.

Photos by Imogen Chappell Photography. Van from Vintage VW Campers. My outfit: Two Birds Bridesmaids dress via Pan Pan Bridal, jacket from Zara, gold slippers from Clarks. His outfit: Kin suit by John Lewis, shirt and tailoring from Hugo Boss, shoes from Ecco. Rings were our design, made by Clarksons, here in Edinburgh. Ceremony was at the registrar’s office in Lothian Chambers, right across from St. Giles Cathedral, and allowed for photos in the nearby Princes Street Gardens afterwards.
